A CLEARSHAVE™ Guide to Effective SkincareUnderstanding The ProblemFor many men and women, a special skin problem is associated with shaving, waxing, or tweezing. When curly hairs are cut, they sometimes get trapped or twist back into the skin and create small bumps known as pseudofolliculitis barbae, or razor bumps. Razor bumps are a chronic and irritating problem that can persist as long as the individual shaves, waxes, or tweezes. If the hair is allowed to grow longer, new bumps no longer form because the hair does not turn back into the skin. However, allowing the hair to grow is often not acceptable or practical for many lifestyles. Razor bump sufferers have attempted to avoid shaving entirely by using caustic and malodorous facial depilatories, which contain lye that can irritate or burn sensitive skin. Finding The Right SolutionTo prevent razor bumps, shaving must be done with special care. Start by shaving in the direction of the hair growth with a single blade razor. Do not use double or triple blade razors, shave over the same area, or stretch the skin in an effort to get a closer shave. Doing so only increases the number of hairs trapped under the skin — which aggravate the razor bump problem. Consider using an electric razor, which many men prefer to use to avoid shaving too closely. Avoid rotary razors, which cut the hair at multiple angles and directions. Using shaving gels and creams or aftershaves, which contain benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acids, or alpha hydroxy acids, may be too caustic for very sensitive skin. For gentle, effective prevention of razor bumps, use CLEARSHAVE™ Aftercare Balm treatment after each shave, wax, or tweezing. For best results, use CLEARSHAVE™ Aftercare Balm daily, especially when the hair begins to re-grow. More questions? Email us at doc@clearshave.com |
